Then Elijah said to the people, “I alone am left as a prophet of the Lord, while Baal’s prophets are 450 men.

¶The Lord gives the command; The women who proclaim good news are a great army:

“Then I will give you shepherds after My own heart, who will feed you knowledge and understanding.

“Woe to the worthless shepherd Who abandons the flock! A sword will be on his arm And on his right eye! His arm will be totally withered, And his right eye will be blind.”

Those who buy them slaughter them and go unpunished, and each of those who sell them says, ‘Blessed be the Lord, for I have become rich!’ And their own shepherds have no compassion for them.

Then I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take away some of the Spirit who is upon you, and put Him upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, so that you will not bear it by yourself.

But Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? If only all the Lord’s people were prophets, that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!”

“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.

It is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay alert.

And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.

And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them, and confirmed the word by the signs that followed.]] [[ And they promptly reported all these instructions to Peter and his companions. And after that, Jesus Himself also sent out through them from east to west the sacred and imperishable proclamation of eternal salvation. ]]

Now He called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all the demons, and the power to heal diseases.

So then those who were scattered because of the persecution that occurred in connection with Stephen made their way to Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except to Jews alone.

While they were serving the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set Barnabas and Saul apart for Me for the work to which I have called them.”

So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia and from there they sailed to Cyprus.

Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.

And He said to me, ‘Go! For I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’  ”

Therefore, those who had been scattered went through places preaching the word.

And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, and various kinds of tongues.

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me.

And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain—

For they all seek after their own interests, not those of Christ Jesus.

But I thought it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother and fellow worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger and minister to my need,

because he came close to death for the work of Christ, risking his life to compensate for your absence in your service to me.

For this purpose I also labor, striving according to His power which works mightily within me.

Epaphras, who is one of your own, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, sends you his greetings, always striving earnestly for you in his prayers, that you may stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God.

For you recall, brothers and sisters, our labor and hardship: it was by working night and day so as not to be a burden to any of you, that we proclaimed to you the gospel of God.

But we ask you, brothers and sisters, to recognize those who diligently labor among you and are in leadership over you in the Lord, and give you instruction,

Finally, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the word of the Lord will spread rapidly and be glorified, just as it was also with you;

For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have set our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all mankind, especially of believers.

But as for you, use self-restraint in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our beloved brother and fellow worker,

but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house—whose house we are, if we hold firmly to our confidence and the boast of our hope.
