So Ahab entered his house sullen and furious because of the answer that Naboth the Jezreelite had given to him, since he said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” And he lay down on his bed and turned his face away, and ate no food.

“You who tear yourself in your anger— Should the earth be abandoned for your sake, Or the rock moved from its place?

“Beware that wrath does not entice you to mockery; And do not let the greatness of the ransom turn you aside.

“For irritation kills the fool, And jealousy brings death to the simple.

But it greatly displeased Jonah, and he became angry.

Then the Lord said, “You had compassion on the plant, for which you did not work and which you did not cause to grow, which came up overnight and perished overnight.

And when the sun came up God designated a scorching east wind, and the sun beat down on Jonah’s head so that he became faint, and he begged with all his soul to die, saying, “Death is better to me than life!”

Then He *said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me.”

For the sorrow that is according to the will of God produces a repentance without regret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the world produces death.

And in those days people will seek death and will not find it; they will long to die, and death will flee from them!

And it came about, when she pressed him daily with her words and urged him, that his soul was annoyed to death.
