Jonah 4:8

And when the sun came up God designated a scorching east wind, and the sun beat down on Jonah’s head so that he became faint, and he begged with all his soul to die, saying, “Death is better to me than life!”

Then behold, seven ears, thin and scorched by the east wind, sprouted up after them.

But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree; and he asked for himself to die, and said, “Enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”

So Ahab entered his house sullen and furious because of the answer that Naboth the Jezreelite had given to him, since he said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” And he lay down on his bed and turned his face away, and ate no food.

But he said to her, “You are speaking as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we actually accept good from God but not accept adversity?” Despite all this, Job did not sin with his lips.

So that my soul would choose suffocation, Death rather than my pains.

The sun will not beat down on you by day, Nor the moon by night.

“I have become mute, I do not open my mouth, Because it is You who have done it.

Do not be eager in your spirit to be angry, For anger resides in the heart of fools.

“Do not stare at me because I am dark, For the sun has tanned me. My mother’s sons were angry with me; They made me caretaker of the vineyards, But I have not taken care of my own vineyard.

“They will not hunger or thirst, Nor will the scorching heat or sun strike them down; For He who has compassion on them will lead them, And He will guide them to springs of water.

‘But it was uprooted in fury; It was thrown down to the ground; And the east wind dried up its fruit. Its strong stem was torn out So that it withered; The fire consumed it.

¶Though he flourishes among the reeds, An east wind will come, The wind of the Lord coming up from the wilderness; And his fountain will become dry And his spring will dry up; It will plunder his treasury of every precious article.

Then Moses said to Aaron, “It is what the Lord spoke, saying, ‘By those who come near Me I will be treated as holy, And before all the people I will be honored.’ ” So Aaron, therefore, kept silent.

And the Lord designated a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the stomach of the fish for three days and three nights.

However, the Lord hurled a great wind on the sea and there was a great storm on the sea, so that the ship was about to break up.

So now, Lord, please take my life from me, for death is better to me than life.”

But God said to Jonah, “Do you have a good reason to be angry about the plant?” And he said, “I have good reason to be angry, even to the point of death!”

saying, ‘These who were hired last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day’s work and the scorching heat.’

Those whom I love, I rebuke and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.

They will no longer hunger nor thirst, nor will the sun beat down on them, nor any scorching heat;

So Samuel told him everything and hid nothing from him. And he said, “He is the Lord; let Him do what seems good to Him.”
