Then David spoke to the Lord when he saw the angel who was striking down the people, and said, “Behold, it is I who have sinned, and it is I who have done wrong; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let Your hand be against me and against my father’s house!”

And David said to God, “Is it not I who commanded to count the people? Indeed, I am the one who has sinned and acted very wickedly, but these sheep, what have they done? Lord, my God, just let Your hand be against me and my father’s household, and not against Your people as a plague.”

“Your wickedness is for a man like yourself, And your righteousness is for a son of man.

Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.

So they said to him, “What should we do to you so that the sea will become calm for us?”—for the sea was becoming increasingly stormy.

However, the men rowed desperately to return to land, but they could not, because the sea was becoming even stormier against them.

nor are you taking into account that it is in your best interest that one man die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish instead.”

saying, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar; and behold, God has graciously granted you all those who are sailing with you.’

Therefore the sons of Israel cannot stand against their enemies; they turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become designated for destruction. I will not be with you anymore unless you eliminate from your midst the things designated for destruction.
