Jeremiah 9:4

“Let everyone be on guard against his neighbor, And do not trust any brother; Because every brother utterly betrays, And every neighbor goes about as a slanderer.

Then he said, “Your name shall no longer be Jacob, but Israel; for you have contended with God and with men, and have prevailed.”

Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, him I will destroy; I will not endure one who has a haughty look and an arrogant heart.

He does not slander with his tongue, Nor do evil to his neighbor, Nor bring shame on his friend;

One who conceals hatred has lying lips, And one who spreads slander is a fool.

Like a club, a sword, and a sharp arrow Is a person who gives false testimony against his neighbor.

For they cannot sleep unless they do evil; And they are robbed of sleep unless they make someone stumble.

For they eat the bread of wickedness, And drink the wine of violence.

¶There are six things that the Lord hates, Seven that are an abomination to Him:

A false witness who declares lies, And one who spreads strife among brothers.

Offending and denying the Lord, And turning away from our God, Speaking oppression and revolt, Conceiving and uttering lying words from the heart.

For those who guide this people are leading them astray; And those who are guided by them are confused.

“For even your brothers and the household of your father, Even they have dealt treacherously with you, Even they have called aloud after you. Do not believe them, though they say nice things to you.”

All of them are stubbornly rebellious, Going about as a slanderer; They are bronze and iron. They are, all of them, corrupt.

“Their tongue is a deadly arrow; It speaks deceit; With his mouth one speaks peace to his neighbor, But inwardly he sets an ambush for him.

Slanderous men have been among you for the purpose of shedding blood, and among you they have eaten at the mountain shrines. In your midst they have committed outrageous sin.

You shall not go about as a slanderer among your people; and you are not to jeopardize the life of your neighbor. I am the Lord.

Do we not all have one Father? Is it not one God who has created us? Why do we deal treacherously, each against his brother so as to profane the covenant of our fathers?

But be on guard against people, for they will hand you over to the courts and flog you in their synagogues;

“Now brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.

But you will be betrayed even by parents, brothers and sisters, other relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death,

and that no one violate the rights and take advantage of his brother or sister in the matter, because the Lord is the avenger in all these things, just as we also told you previously and solemnly warned you.
