Jeremiah 3:1

God says, “If a husband divorces his wife And she leaves him And becomes another man’s wife, Will he return to her again? Would that land not be completely defiled? But you are a prostitute with many lovers; Yet you turn to Me,” declares the Lord.

“Go up to Lebanon and cry out, And raise your voice in Bashan; Cry out also from Abarim, For all your lovers have been crushed.

“Return, you faithless sons, I will heal your faithlessness.” “Behold, we come to You; For You are the Lord our God.

And because of the thoughtlessness of her prostitution, she defiled the land and committed adultery with stones and trees.

“How long will you waver, You rebellious daughter? For the Lord has created a new thing on the earth: A woman will shelter a man.”

“If you will return, Israel,” declares the Lord, “Then you should return to Me. And if you will put away your detestable things from My presence, And will not waver,

¶Wash your heart from evil, Jerusalem, So that you may be saved. How long will your wicked thoughts Lodge within you?

She weeps bitterly in the night, And her tears are on her cheeks; She has no one to comfort her Among all her lovers. All her friends have dealt treacherously with her; They have become her enemies.

You also committed prostitution with the Egyptians, your lustful neighbors, and multiplied your obscene practice to provoke Me to anger.

“How feverish is your heart,” declares the Lord God, “while you do all these things, the action of a bold prostitute!

Therefore, you prostitute, hear the word of the Lord.

Say to them, ‘As I live!’ declares the Lord God, ‘I take no pleasure at all in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways! Why then should you die, house of Israel?’

When the Lord first spoke through Hosea, the Lord said to Hosea, “Go, take for yourself a wife inclined to infidelity, and children of infidelity; for the land commits flagrant infidelity, abandoning the Lord.”

“Dispute with your mother, dispute, Because she is not my wife, and I am not her husband; But she must remove her infidelity from her face And her adultery from between her breasts,

“Arise and go, For this is no place of rest Because of the uncleanness that brings on destruction, A painful destruction.

Therefore say to them, ‘This is what the Lord of armies says: “Return to Me,” declares the Lord of armies, “that I may return to you,” says the Lord of armies.

“Now it was said, ‘Whoever sends his wife away is to give her a certificate of divorce’;

then they shall bring the girl out to the doorway of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death, because she has committed a disgraceful sin in Israel by playing the prostitute in her father’s house; so you shall eliminate the evil from among you.

But his concubine found him repugnant, and she left him and went to her father’s house in Bethlehem in Judah, and remained there for a period of four months.
