Then Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, “This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn or weep.” For all the people were weeping when they heard the words of the Law.

“Therefore my harp is turned to mourning, And my flute to the sound of those who weep.

My eyes shed streams of water, Because they do not keep Your Law.

Before I was afflicted I went astray, But now I keep Your word.

It is good for me that I was afflicted, So that I may learn Your statutes.

“They will come with weeping, And by pleading I will bring them; I will lead them by streams of waters, On a straight path on which they will not stumble; For I am a father to Israel, And Ephraim is My firstborn.”

The joy of our hearts has ended; Our dancing has been turned into mourning.

so that you may remember and be ashamed, and not open your mouth again because of your disgrace, when I have forgiven you for all that you have done,” the Lord God declares.

Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.

Woe to you who are well-fed now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will mourn and weep.
