You ask and do not receive, because you ask with the wrong motives, so that you may spend what you request on your pleasures.

And God said to him, “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself a long life, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the lives of your enemies, but have asked for yourself discernment to understand justice,

“There they cry out, but He does not answer Because of the pride of evil people.

“Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently but will not find me,

“So as for you, do not pray for this people, nor lift up a cry or prayer for them; for I will not listen when they call to Me because of their disaster.

When they fast, I am not going to listen to their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and grain offering, I am not going to accept them. Rather, I am going to put an end to them by the sword, famine, and plague.”

Then they will cry out to the Lord, But He will not answer them. Instead, He will hide His face from them at that time Because they have practiced evil deeds.

And just as He called and they would not listen, so they called and I would not listen,” says the Lord of armies;

But Jesus replied, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?” They *said to Him, “We are able.”

But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?”

For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, it will be opened.

And not many days later, the younger son gathered everything together and went on a journey to a distant country, and there he squandered his estate in wild living.

but when this son of yours came, who has devoured your wealth with prostitutes, you slaughtered the fattened calf for him.’

What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is the source not your pleasures that wage war in your body’s parts?

and whatever we ask, we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight.

This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
