Then he said, “Look, I have heard that there is grain in Egypt; go down there and buy some for us from that place, so that we may live and not die.”

So ten of Joseph’s brothers went down to buy grain from Egypt.

So it came about, when they had finished eating the grain which they had brought from Egypt, that their father said to them, “Go back, buy us a little food.”

If you send our brother with us, we will go down and buy you food.

But He answered and said, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes out of the mouth of God.’ ”

But when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent our fathers there the first time.
