Daniel 9:2

in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, observed in the books the number of the years which was revealed as the word of the Lord to Jeremiah the prophet for the completion of the desolations of Jerusalem, namely, seventy years.

to fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed its Sabbaths. All the days of its desolation it kept the Sabbath until seventy years were complete.

Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, the Lord stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he sent a proclamation throughout his kingdom, and also put it in writing, saying:

Your testimonies also are my delight; They are my advisers.

Your holy cities have become a wilderness, Zion has become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.

The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin,

To Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, and its kings and its officials, to make them places of ruins, objects of horror, hissing, and a curse, as it is this day;

“Micah of Moresheth used to prophesy in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah; and he spoke to all the people of Judah, saying, ‘This is what the Lord of armies has said: “Zion will be plowed like a field, And Jerusalem will become heaps of ruins, And the mountain of the house like the high places of a forest.” ’

then I will make this house like Shiloh, and I will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.” ’ ”

All the nations shall serve him and his son and his grandson until the time of his own land comes; then many nations and great kings will make him their servant.

“For this is what the Lord says: ‘When seventy years have been completed for Babylon, I will visit you and fulfill My good word to you, to bring you back to this place.

Then I will eliminate from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the groom and the voice of the bride; for the land will become a site of ruins.

How lonely sits the city That once had many people! She has become like a widow Who was once great among the nations! She who was a princess among the provinces Has become a forced laborer!

A human foot will not pass through it, nor will the foot of an animal pass through it, and it will not be inhabited for forty years.

So I gave my attention to the Lord God, to seek Him by prayer and pleading, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.

Therefore on account of you, Zion will be plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become a heap of ruins, And the mountain of the temple will become high places of a forest.

Then the angel of the Lord said, “Lord of armies, how long will You take no pity on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, with which You have been indignant for these seventy years?”

“Say to all the people of the land and to the priests, ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months these seventy years, was it actually for Me that you fasted?

“Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place— let the reader understand—

“Now when you see the abomination of desolation standing where it should not be— let the reader understand—then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.

The eunuch answered Philip and said, “Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this? Of himself, or of someone else?”

Until I come, give your attention to the public reading, to exhortation, and teaching.

Blessed is the one who reads, and those who hear the words of the prophecy and keep the things which are written in it; for the time is near.
