Daniel 5:23

but you have risen up against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your nobles, your wives, and your concubines have been drinking wine out of them; and you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see, nor hear, nor understand. But the God in whose hand are your life-breath and all your ways, you have not glorified.

And he blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth;

Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living person.

You have indeed defeated Edom, and your heart is elated. Enjoy the glory and stay home; for why should you get involved in trouble so that you would fall, you and Judah with you?”

In whose hand is the life of every living thing, And the breath of all mankind?

“Does He not see my ways, And count all my steps?

You hide Your face, they are terrified; You take away their breath, they perish And return to their dust.

¶The heavens are the heavens of the Lord, But the earth He has given to the sons of mankind.

You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways.

His spirit departs, he returns to the earth; On that very day his plans perish.

A man’s steps are ordained by the Lord; How then can a person understand his way?

So I will punish the world for its evil And the wicked for their wrongdoing; I will also put an end to the audacity of the proud And humiliate the arrogance of the tyrants.

“But you said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north.

¶For the Lord of armies will have a day of reckoning Against everyone who is arrogant and haughty, And against everyone who is lifted up, That he may be brought low.

“Now I will arise,” says the Lord, “Now I will be exalted, now I will be lifted up.

and have thrown their gods into the fire, for they were not gods but only the work of human hands, wood and stone. So they have destroyed them.

“Whom have you taunted and blasphemed? And against whom have you raised your voice And haughtily raised your eyes? Against the Holy One of Israel!

This is what God the Lord says, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread out the earth and its offspring, Who gives breath to the people on it And spirit to those who walk in it:

¶I know, Lord, that a person’s way is not in himself, Nor is it in a person who walks to direct his steps.

“Make him drunk, for he has become arrogant toward the Lord; so Moab will vomit, and he also will become a laughingstock.

¶There is a sound of fugitives and refugees from the land of Babylon, To declare in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God, Vengeance for His temple.

¶“Summon many against Babylon, All those who bend the bow: Encamp against her on every side, Let there be no escape. Repay her according to her work; According to all that she has done, so do to her; For she has become arrogant against the Lord, Against the Holy One of Israel.

“Your heart was haughty because of your beauty; You corrupted your wisdom by reason of your splendor. I threw you to the ground; I put you before kings, That they may see you.

“Son of man, say to the leader of Tyre, ‘The Lord God says this: “Because your heart is haughty And you have said, ‘I am a god, I sit in the seat of gods In the heart of the seas’; Yet you are a mortal and not God, Although you make your heart like the heart of God—

“By your great wisdom, by your trade You have increased your riches, And your heart is haughty because of your riches—

‘Therefore this is what the Lord God says: “Because it is tall in stature and has put its top among the clouds, and its heart is haughty in its loftiness,

When the multitude is carried away, his heart will be haughty, and he will cause tens of thousands to fall; yet he will not prevail.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt, and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are true and His ways just; and He is able to humble those who walk in pride.”

It even exalted itself to be equal with the Commander of the army; and it removed the regular sacrifice from Him, and the place of His sanctuary was overthrown.

¶“Behold, as for the impudent one, His soul is not right within him; But the righteous one will live by his faith.

nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things;

Therefore, concerning the eating of food sacrificed to idols, we know that an idol is nothing at all in the world, and that there is no God but one.

and not a new convert, so that he will not become conceited and fall into condemnation incurred by the devil.

And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom we must answer.

The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands so as not to worship demons and the idols of gold, silver, brass, stone, and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk;

Now the governors of the Philistines assembled to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god, and to celebrate, for they said, “Our god has handed Samson our enemy over to us.”

Then David said to the men who were standing by him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and rids Israel of the disgrace? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he has dared to defy the armies of the living God?”

Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, since he has defied the armies of the living God.”
