Now Joseph was thirty years old when he stood in the presence of Pharaoh, king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh and went through all the land of Egypt.

But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king’s choice food or with the wine which he drank; so he sought permission from the commander of the officials that he might not defile himself.

‘Give us this day our daily bread.

The angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I was sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.

‘Give us each day our daily bread.

But stay alert at all times, praying that you will have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

So Saul sent word to Jesse, saying, “Let David now be my attendant for he has found favor in my sight.”
