Then they understood that He did not say to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

And they *sent their disciples to Him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and do not care what anyone thinks; for You are not partial to anyone.

But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas, and to put Jesus to death.

In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him and saying,

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

On one of the days while He was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes with the elders confronted Him,

And he left and discussed with the chief priests and officers how he was to betray Him to them.

Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you as well; if they followed My word, they will follow yours also.

So Judas, having obtained the Roman cohort and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, *came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.

and Annas the high priest was there, and Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and all who were of high-priestly descent.

But the high priest stood up, along with all his associates (that is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy.

Now when the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests heard these words, they were greatly perplexed about them as to what would come of this.

Then the captain went along with the officers and proceeded to bring them back without violence (for they were afraid of the people, that they might be stoned).

And they stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes, and they came up to him and dragged him away, and brought him before the Council.

The word of God kept spreading; and the number of the disciples continued to increase greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were becoming obedient to the faith.
