Nevertheless, David captured the stronghold of Zion, that is, the city of David.

And David said on that day, “Whoever strikes the Jebusites is to reach those who limp and those who are blind, who are hated by David’s soul, through the water tunnel.” For that reason they say, “People who are blind and people who limp shall not come into the house.”

So David lived in the stronghold, and called it the city of David. And David built all around from the Millo and inward.

And David was unwilling to move the ark of the Lord into the city of David with him; but David took it aside to the house of Obed-edom, the Gittite.

Now it was reported to King David, saying, “The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, on account of the ark of God.” So David went and brought the ark of God up from the house of Obed-edom to the city of David with joy.

Then it happened, as the ark of the Lord was coming into the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looked down through the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she was contemptuous of him in her heart.

Then David lay down with his fathers, and he was buried in the city of David.

Now Solomon formed a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh’s daughter and brought her to the city of David until he had finished building his own house and the house of the Lord, and the wall around Jerusalem.

Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the fathers’ households of the sons of Israel, to King Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the city of David, that is, Zion.

As soon as Pharaoh’s daughter came up from the city of David to her house which Solomon had built for her, he then built the Millo.

Then David lived in the stronghold; therefore it was called the city of David.

And they buried him in the city of David with the kings, because he had done well in Israel and for God and His house.

Then Solomon assembled at Jerusalem the elders of Israel, all the heads of the tribes, and the leaders of the fathers’ households of the sons of Israel, to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord up from the city of David, which is Zion.

Shallum the son of Col-hozeh, the official of the district of Mizpah, repaired the Fountain Gate. He built it, made a roof for it, and installed its doors with its bolts and its bars, and the wall of the Pool of Shelah at the king’s garden as far as the steps that descend from the city of David.

¶For the Lord has chosen Zion; He has desired it as His dwelling place.

“But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain.”

Walk around Zion and encircle her; Count her towers;

In its palaces, God has made Himself known as a stronghold.

¶By Your favor do good to Zion; Build the walls of Jerusalem.

The Lord loves the gates of Zion More than all the other dwelling places of Jacob.

¶Sing praises to the Lord, who dwells in Zion; Declare His deeds among the peoples.

Rejoice and shout for joy, you inhabitant of Zion, For great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.

“A Redeemer will come to Zion, And to those in Jacob who turn from wrongdoing,” declares the Lord.

¶“Behold, I am against you, you inhabitant of the valley, You rocky plain,” declares the Lord, “You who say, ‘Who will come down against us? Or who will enter our dwellings?’

Many nations will come and say, “Come and let’s go up to the mountain of the Lord And to the house of the God of Jacob, So that He may teach us about His ways, And that we may walk in His paths.” For from Zion will go forth the law, And the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

just as it is written: “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, And the one who believes in Him will not be put to shame.”

But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels,

Then I looked, and behold, the Lamb was standing on Mount Zion, and with Him 144,000 who had His name and the name of His Father written on their foreheads.
