Then David said to Gad, “I am in great distress. Let us now fall into the hand of the Lord, for His mercies are great; but do not let me fall into human hands.”

Again he prostrated himself, and said, “What is your servant, that you should be concerned about a dead dog like me?”

Now when the attendant of the man of God had risen early and gone out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was circling the city. And his servant said to him, “This is hopeless, my master! What are we to do?”

David said to Gad, “I am in great distress; please let me fall into the hand of the Lord, for His mercies are very great. But do not let me fall into human hands.”

Great are Your mercies, Lord; Revive me according to Your judgments.

But there is forgiveness with You, So that You may be revered.

Israel, wait for the Lord; For with the Lord there is mercy, And with Him is abundant redemption.

The Lord is good to all, And His mercies are over all His works.

Be gracious to me, God, according to Your faithfulness; According to the greatness of Your compassion, wipe out my wrongdoings.

But You, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, Slow to anger and abundant in mercy and truth.

For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in mercy to all who call upon You.

A righteous person has regard for the life of his animal, But even the compassion of the wicked is cruel.

“I was angry with My people, I profaned My heritage And handed them over to you. You did not show mercy to them, On the aged you made your yoke very heavy.

Let the wicked abandon his way, And the unrighteous person his thoughts; And let him return to the Lord, And He will have compassion on him, And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.

But I will save you on that day,” declares the Lord, “and you will not be handed over to the men of whom you are afraid.

The Lord’s acts of mercy indeed do not end, For His compassions do not fail.

To the Lord our God belong compassion and forgiveness, because we have rebelled against Him;

Then he prayed to the Lord and said, “Please Lord, was this not what I said when I was still in my own country? Therefore in anticipation of this I fled to Tarshish, since I knew that You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abundant in mercy, and One who relents of disaster.

Who is a God like You, who pardons wrongdoing And passes over a rebellious act of the remnant of His possession? He does not retain His anger forever, Because He delights in mercy.

He will again take pity on us; He will trample on our wrongdoings. Yes, You will cast all their sins Into the depths of the sea.

But I am very angry with the nations who are carefree; for while I was only a little angry, they furthered the disaster.”

“Now My soul has become troubled; and what am I to say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.

But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better;

When the men of Israel saw that they were in trouble (for the people were hard-pressed), then the people kept themselves hidden in caves, in crevices, in cliffs, in crypts, and in pits.
