Then Abishai the son of Zeruiah said to the king, “Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Now let me go over and cut off his head.”

But Abishai the son of Zeruiah responded, “Should Shimei not be put to death for this, the fact that he cursed the Lord’s anointed?”

David then said, “What is there between you and me, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should be an adversary to me today? Should anyone be put to death in Israel today? For do I not know that I am king over Israel today?”

So Joab and his brother Abishai killed Abner because he had put their brother Asahel to death in the battle at Gibeon.

Then Abner became very angry over Ish-bosheth’s question and said, “Am I a dog’s head that belongs to Judah? Today I show kindness to the house of Saul your father, to his brothers and to his friends, and have not let you fall into the hands of David; yet today you call me to account for wrongdoing with that woman?

Again he prostrated himself, and said, “What is your servant, that you should be concerned about a dead dog like me?”

“You shall not curse God, nor curse a ruler of your people.

When His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?”

And Paul said, “I was not aware, brothers, that he is high priest; for it is written: ‘You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.’ ”

Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.

After whom has the king of Israel gone out? Whom are you pursuing? A dead dog, a single flea?
