Then Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you are returning to the Lord with all your heart, then remove the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts to the Lord and serve Him alone; and He will save you from the hand of the Philistines.”

because they have abandoned Me, and have worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the sons of Ammon; and they have not walked in My ways, doing what is right in My sight and keeping My statutes and My ordinances, as his father David did.

“As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him wholeheartedly and with a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever.

But there is some good in you, for you have removed the Asheroth from the land and you have set your heart to seek God.”

The plans of the heart belong to a person, But the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.

I will also give them a heart to know Me, for I am the Lord; and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me wholeheartedly.

“If you will return, Israel,” declares the Lord, “Then you should return to Me. And if you will put away your detestable things from My presence, And will not waver,

“Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘This is what the Lord God says: “Repent and turn away from your idols, and turn your faces away from all your abominations.

Hurl away from you all your offenses which you have committed and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! For why should you die, house of Israel?

Return, Israel, to the Lord your God, For you have stumbled because of your wrongdoing.

‘This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far away from Me.

Then Jesus *said to him, “Go away, Satan! For it is written: ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.’ ”

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.

Jesus replied to him, “It is written: ‘You shall worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.’ ”

God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

You shall fear the Lord your God; you shall serve Him, and cling to Him, and you shall swear by His name.

You shall follow the Lord your God and fear Him; and you shall keep His commandments, listen to His voice, serve Him, and cling to Him.

But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul.

You shall fear only the Lord your God; and you shall worship Him and swear by His name.

also half of Gilead, with Ashtaroth and Edrei, the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were for the sons of Machir the son of Manasseh, for half of the sons of Machir according to their families.

“Now, therefore, fear the Lord and serve Him in sincerity and truth; and do away with the gods which your fathers served beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.

“Now then, do away with the foreign gods which are in your midst, and incline your hearts to the Lord, the God of Israel.”

So they removed the foreign gods from among them and served the Lord; and He could no longer endure the misery of Israel.

Then the sons of Israel again did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they served the Baals and the Ashtaroth, the gods of Aram, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the sons of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines; so they abandoned the Lord and did not serve Him.

Then the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals,

They abandoned the Lord and served Baal and the Ashtaroth.

They put his weapons in the temple of Ashtaroth, and they nailed his body to the wall of Beth-shan.
