Then Jacob became angry and argued with Laban; and Jacob said to Laban, “What is my offense? What is my sin that you have hotly pursued me?

¶Do not make friends with a person given to anger, Or go with a hot-tempered person,

Do not be eager in your spirit to be angry, For anger resides in the heart of fools.

This is an evil in everything that is done under the sun, that there is one fate for everyone. Furthermore, the hearts of the sons of mankind are full of evil, and insanity is in their hearts throughout their lives. Afterward they go to the dead.

¶“The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?

But he said, “Why, what evil has He done?” Yet they kept shouting all the more, saying, “Crucify Him!”

And he said to them a third time, “Why, what has this Man done wrong? I have found in His case no grounds for a sentence of death; therefore I will punish Him and release Him.”

“Our Law does not judge the person unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing, does it?”

Then Saul hurled the spear, for he thought, “I will pin David to the wall.” But David escaped from his presence, twice.

Then Jonathan spoke well of David to his father Saul and said to him, “May the king not sin against his servant David, since he has not sinned against you, and since his deeds have been very beneficial to you.

For he took his life in his hand and struck the Philistine, and the Lord brought about a great victory for all Israel; you saw it and rejoiced. Why then would you sin against innocent blood by putting David to death for no reason?”

Then David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and he came and said to Jonathan, “What have I done? What is my guilt? And what is my sin before your father, that he is seeking my life?”

If he says, ‘That is good,’ your servant will be safe; but if he is very angry, be aware that he has decided on evil.

Then Ahimelech answered the king and said, “And who among all your servants is as faithful as David, the king’s own son-in-law, who is commander over your bodyguard, and is honored in your house?
