They pour out words, they speak arrogantly; All who do injustice boast.

All the ways of a person are clean in his own sight, But the Lord examines the motives.

If you say, “See, we did not know this,” Does He who weighs the hearts not consider it? And does He who watches over your soul not know it? And will He not repay a person according to his work?

“The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride, arrogance, the evil way, And the perverted mouth, I hate.

¶The way of the righteous is smooth; O Upright One, make the path of the righteous level.

“Whom have you taunted and blasphemed? And against whom have you raised your voice And haughtily raised your eyes? Against the Holy One of Israel!

“I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, To give to each person according to his ways, According to the results of his deeds.

And you have spoken arrogantly against Me and have multiplied your words against Me; I Myself have heard it.”

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt, and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are true and His ways just; and He is able to humble those who walk in pride.”

‘Tekēl’—you have been weighed on the scales and found deficient.

“Your words have been arrogant against Me,” says the Lord. “Yet you say, ‘What have we spoken against You?’

For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, even penetrating as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

“The Mighty One, God, the Lord, the Mighty One, God, the Lord! He knows, and may Israel itself know. If it was in rebellion, or if in an unfaithful act against the Lord, do not save us this day!

And I will kill her children with plague, and all the churches will know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts; and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.

Then Zebul said to him, “Where then is your boasting with which you said, ‘Who is Abimelech that we should serve him?’ Is this not the people whom you rejected? Go out now and fight them!”

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God does not see as man sees, since man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
