And Saul tried to pin David to the wall with the spear, but he escaped from Saul’s presence, so that he stuck the spear into the wall. And David fled and escaped that night.

Our souls have escaped like a bird from the trapper’s snare; The snare is broken and we have escaped.

He saved me from my strong enemy, And from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me.

¶The afflictions of the righteous are many, But the Lord rescues him from them all.

The wicked spies upon the righteous And seeks to kill him.

For their feet run to evil, And they are quick to shed blood.

“No weapon that is formed against you will succeed; And you will condemn every tongue that accuses you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their vindication is from Me,” declares the Lord.

¶What shall I do with you, Ephraim? What shall I do with you, Judah? For your loyalty is like a morning cloud, And like the dew which goes away early.

“But whenever they persecute you in one city, flee to the next; for truly I say to you, you will not finish going through the cities of Israel until the Son of Man comes.

But He passed through their midst and went on His way.

Therefore they were seeking again to arrest Him, and He eluded their grasp.

quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.

Now it came about on the next day that an evil spirit from God rushed upon Saul, and he raved in the midst of the house while David was playing the harp with his hand, as usual; and a spear was in Saul’s hand.

Then Saul hurled the spear, for he thought, “I will pin David to the wall.” But David escaped from his presence, twice.

Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan, and Saul vowed, “As the Lord lives, David shall not be put to death.”

Then Saul hurled his spear at him to strike and kill him; so Jonathan knew that his father had decided to put David to death.
