When the Lord smelled the sweet odor, the Lord said to himself: Never again will I curse the ground because of human beings, since the desires of the human heart are evil from youth; nor will I ever again strike down every living being, as I have done.

“When they sin against you (for there is no one who does not sin), and in your anger against them you deliver them to an enemy, so that their captors carry them off to the land of the enemy, far or near,

yet there is no one on earth so just as to do good and never sin.

And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God handed them over to their undiscerning mind to do what is improper.

For God delivered all to disobedience, that he might have mercy upon all.

Now we know that what the law says is addressed to those under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world stand accountable to God,

Well, then, are we better off? Not entirely, for we have already brought the charge against Jews and Greeks alike that they are all under the domination of sin,

through whom we have gained access [by faith] to this grace in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the glory of God.

But scripture confined all things under the power of sin, that through faith in Jesus Christ the promise might be given to those who believe. What Faith Has Brought Us.

exhorting and encouraging you and insisting that you conduct yourselves as worthy of the God who calls you into his kingdom and glory. Further Thanksgiving.

To this end he has [also] called you through our gospel to possess the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Therefore, let us be on our guard while the promise of entering into his rest remains, that none of you seem to have failed.

But rejoice to the extent that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice exultantly.

So I exhort the presbyters among you, as a fellow presbyter and witness to the sufferings of Christ and one who has a share in the glory to be revealed.

The God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory through Christ [Jesus] will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you after you have suffered a little.
