Because you rage against me, and your smugness has reached my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth, And make you leave by the way you came.

Do not forget the clamor of your foes, the unceasing uproar of your enemies.

Your foes roared triumphantly in the place of your assembly; they set up their own tokens of victory.

In a moment I would humble their foes, and turn back my hand against their oppressors.

The flood has raised up, Lord; the flood has raised up its roar; the flood has raised its pounding waves.

They will fight against you, but not prevail over you, for I am with you to deliver you—oracle of the Lord.

When Pilate saw that he was not succeeding at all, but that a riot was breaking out instead, he took water and washed his hands in the sight of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of this man’s blood. Look to it yourselves.”

The crowd joined in the attack on them, and the magistrates had them stripped and ordered them to be beaten with rods.

But the Jews became jealous and recruited some worthless men loitering in the public square, formed a mob, and set the city in turmoil. They marched on the house of Jason, intending to bring them before the people’s assembly.

The whole city was in turmoil with people rushing together. They seized Paul and dragged him out of the temple, and immediately the gates were closed.

They listened to him until he said this, but then they raised their voices and shouted, “Take such a one as this away from the earth. It is not right that he should live.”

The dispute was so serious that the commander, afraid that Paul would be torn to pieces by them, ordered his troops to go down and rescue him from their midst and take him into the compound.
