In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth—

Does not God, in the heights of the heavens, behold the top of the stars, high though they are?

Is there any numbering of his troops? Yet on which of them does his light not rise?

Even the moon is not bright and the stars are not clean in his eyes.

Remember, you should extol his work, which people have praised in song.

You made the moon to mark the seasons, the sun that knows the hour of its setting.

Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them.

Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all shining stars.
