What the wise relate and have not contradicted since the days of their ancestors,

To hear the sound of thanksgiving, and recount all your wondrous deeds.

Be gracious to me, Lord; see how my foes afflict me! You alone can raise me from the gates of death.

When your children ask you, ‘What does this rite of yours mean?’

And when your son asks you later on, ‘What does this mean?’ you will tell him, ‘With a strong hand the Lord brought us out of Egypt, out of a house of slavery.

And on that day you will explain to your son, ‘This is because of what the Lord did for me when I came out of Egypt.’

The living, the living give you thanks, as I do today. Parents declare to their children, O God, your faithfulness.

Report it to your children. Have your children report it to their children, and their children to the next generation.

Teach them to your children, speaking of them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you get up,

However, be on your guard and be very careful not to forget the things your own eyes have seen, nor let them slip from your heart as long as you live, but make them known to your children and to your children’s children,

Keep repeating them to your children. Recite them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you get up.
