Yet the tents of robbers are prosperous, and those who provoke God are secure, whom God has in his power.

The upright are astonished at this, the innocent aroused against the wicked.

Why do the wicked keep on living, grow old, become mighty in power?

he gives safety and support, and his eyes are on their ways.

Yet their affairs always succeed; they ignore your judgment on high; they sneer at all who oppose them.

Of David. Do not be provoked by evildoers; do not envy those who do wrong.

Be still before the Lord; wait for him. Do not be provoked by the prosperous, nor by malicious schemers.

Do not let your heart envy sinners, but only those who always fear the Lord;

Do not envy the wicked, nor desire to be with them;

Do not envy the violent and choose none of their ways:

I have seen all manner of things in my vain days: the just perishing in their justice, and the wicked living long in their wickedness.

You would be in the right, O Lord, if I should dispute with you; even so, I must lay out the case against you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper, why do all the treacherous live in contentment?

But we call the arrogant blessed; for evildoers not only prosper but even test God and escape.”

Or do you suppose that the scripture speaks without meaning when it says, “The spirit that he has made to dwell in us tends toward jealousy”?
