Answer me, Lord, in your generous love; in your great mercy turn to me.
Why do you not pardon my offense, or take away my guilt? For soon I shall lie down in the dust; and should you seek me I shall be gone.

Hasten to answer me, Lord; for my spirit fails me. Do not hide your face from me, lest I become like those descending to the pit.
Rescue me, Lord, from my foes, for I seek refuge in you.
“You who fear the Lord, give praise! All descendants of Jacob, give honor; show reverence, all descendants of Israel!
Do not hide your face from me; do not repel your servant in anger. You are my salvation; do not cast me off; do not forsake me, God my savior!
But evils surround me until they cannot be counted. My sins overtake me, so that I can no longer see. They are more numerous than the hairs of my head; my courage fails me.
Awake! Why do you sleep, O Lord? Rise up! Do not reject us forever!
Which my lips pronounced and my mouth spoke in my distress.

The Lord’s acts of mercy are not exhausted, his compassion is not spent;
Then he said to them, “My soul is sorrowful even to death. Remain here and keep watch with me.”
And about three o’clock Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
