Though his sons and daughters tried to console him, he refused all consolation, saying, “No, I will go down mourning to my son in Sheol.” Thus did his father weep for him.

“Enough,” said Israel. “My son Joseph is still alive! I must go and see him before I die.”

Then David came dancing before the Lord with abandon, girt with a linen ephod.

O our God, will you not bring judgment on them? We are powerless before this vast multitude that is coming against us. We ourselves do not know what to do, so our eyes are turned toward you.” Victory Prophesied.

Frightened, Jehoshaphat resolved to consult the Lord. He proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

‘If evil comes upon us, the sword of judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and before you, for your name is in this house, and we will cry out to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save!’

He continued: “Go, eat rich foods and drink sweet drinks, and allot portions to those who had nothing prepared; for today is holy to our Lord. Do not be saddened this day, for rejoicing in the Lord is your strength!”

Let them praise his name in dance, make music with tambourine and lyre.

Give praise with tambourines and dance, praise him with strings and pipes.

Hear my voice, Lord, when I call; have mercy on me and answer me.

Sing praise to the Lord, you faithful; give thanks to his holy memory.

Many say, “May we see better times! Lord, show us the light of your face!” Selah

A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.

Therefore a strong people will honor you, ruthless nations will fear you.

He will destroy death forever. The Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces; The reproach of his people he will remove from the whole earth; for the Lord has spoken.

I will rejoice heartily in the Lord, my being exults in my God; For he has clothed me with garments of salvation, and wrapped me in a robe of justice, Like a bridegroom adorned with a diadem, as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

to place on those who mourn in Zion a diadem instead of ashes, To give them oil of gladness instead of mourning, a glorious mantle instead of a faint spirit. They will be called oaks of justice, the planting of the Lord to show his glory.

Again I will build you, and you shall stay built, virgin Israel; Carrying your festive tambourines, you shall go forth dancing with merrymakers.

Jehoiachin took off his prison garb and ate at the king’s table as long as he lived.

But his father ordered his servants, ‘Quickly bring the finest robe and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.

Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy.

He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain, [for] the old order has passed away.”
