they received help so that the Hagrites and all who were with them were delivered into their power. For during the battle they cried out to God, and he heard them because they had put their trust in him.

Still God had regard for their affliction when he heard their wailing.

In you, Lord, I take refuge; let me never be put to shame.

Israel has been saved by the Lord, saved forever! You shall never be put to shame or disgrace in any future age.”

Kings shall be your guardians, their princesses your nursemaids; Face to the ground, they shall bow down before you and lick the dust at your feet. Then you shall know that I am the Lord, none who hope in me shall be ashamed.

Whoever happened upon them devoured them; their enemies said, “We are not guilty, Because they sinned against the Lord, the abode of justice, the hope of their ancestors.”

You have executed proper judgments in all that you have brought upon us and upon Jerusalem, the holy city of our ancestors. By a proper judgment you have done all this because of our sins;

For the scripture says, “No one who believes in him will be put to shame.”

as it is written: “Behold, I am laying a stone in Zion that will make people stumble and a rock that will make them fall, and whoever believes in him shall not be put to shame.”

For it says in scripture: “Behold, I am laying a stone in Zion, a cornerstone, chosen and precious, and whoever believes in it shall not be put to shame.”

But the Israelites cried out to the Lord; for with his nine hundred iron chariots Jabin harshly oppressed the Israelites for twenty years.

Israel was reduced to utter poverty by Midian, and so the Israelites cried out to the Lord.
