In my distress I called out: Lord! I cried out to my God; From his temple he heard my voice, my cry reached his ears.

Then the levitical priests rose and blessed the people; their voice was heard and their prayer reached heaven, God’s holy dwelling.

The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord’s throne is in heaven. God’s eyes keep careful watch; they test the children of Adam.

A song of ascents. The Lord answered me when I called in my distress:

Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

you destroy those who speak falsely. A bloody and fraudulent man the Lord abhors.

Then call on me on the day of distress; I will rescue you, and you shall honor me.”

My heart pounds within me; death’s terrors fall upon me.

A long time passed, during which the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned under their bondage and cried out, and from their bondage their cry for help went up to God.

But the Lord is in his holy temple; silence before him, all the earth!

he said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible to you. Take this cup away from me, but not what I will but what you will.”

Peter thus was being kept in prison, but prayer by the church was fervently being made to God on his behalf.

Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant could be seen in the temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings, and peals of thunder, an earthquake, and a violent hailstorm.
