If you, Lord, keep account of sins, Lord, who can stand?
Lord, God of Israel, you are just; yet we have been spared, the remnant we are today. Here we are before you in our sins. Because of all this, we can no longer stand in your presence.”
If I should sin, you would keep a watch on me, and from my guilt you would not absolve me.
How can any mortal be blameless, anyone born of woman be righteous?
Though I were right, my own mouth might condemn me; were I innocent, it might put me in the wrong.
Do not enter into judgment with your servant; before you no one can be just.
At your roar, O God of Jacob, chariot and steed lay still.
We had all gone astray like sheep, all following our own way; But the Lord laid upon him the guilt of us all.
Before his wrath, who can stand firm, and who can face his blazing anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and boulders break apart before him.
But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand firm when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire, like fullers’ lye.
Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Do not look upon the stubbornness of this people nor upon their wickedness and sin,
because the great day of their wrath has come and who can withstand it?”
