Why, Lord, do you stand afar and pay no heed in times of trouble?

Why do you hide your face and consider me your enemy?

The north enfolds him, and I cannot catch sight of him; The south hides him, and I cannot see him.

If he is silent, who then can condemn? If he hides his face, who then can behold him, whether nation or individual?

For the leader; according to “The deer of the dawn.” A psalm of David.

Do not hide your face from me; do not repel your servant in anger. You are my salvation; do not cast me off; do not forsake me, God my savior!

Complacent, I once said, “I shall never be shaken.”

Awake! Why do you sleep, O Lord? Rise up! Do not reject us forever!

Why do you hide your face; why forget our pain and misery?

But I cry out to you, Lord; in the morning my prayer comes before you.

Hope of Israel, Lord, our savior in time of need! Why should you be a stranger in the land, like a traveler stopping only for a night?

Why are you like someone bewildered, a champion who cannot save? You are in our midst, Lord, your name we bear: do not forsake us!
