My son, if you receive my words and treasure my commands,

The Words of the Wise: Incline your ear, and hear my words, and let your mind attend to my teaching;

Hear, O children, a father’s instruction, be attentive, that you may gain understanding!

My son, to my words be attentive, to my sayings incline your ear;

Observe, my son, your father’s command, and do not reject your mother’s teaching;

And I saw among the naive, I observed among the young men, a youth with no sense,

And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you, God can raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

Anyone who has ears to hear ought to hear.”

Know this, my dear brothers: everyone should be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath,
