“As for you, Solomon, my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and a willing soul, for the Lord searches all hearts and understands all the mind’s thoughts. If you search for him, he will be found; but if you abandon him, he will cast you off forever.

But if ever you turn away and forsake my commandments and statutes which I set before you, and proceed to serve other gods, and bow down to them,

Shall you say: “My teaching is pure, and I am clean in your sight”?

I will state directly what is in my mind, my lips shall speak knowledge clearly;

They have almost put an end to me on earth, but I do not forsake your precepts.

My son, do not forget my teaching, take to heart my commands;

We have obeyed Jonadab, Rechab’s son, our father, in everything that he commanded us: not drinking wine as long as we live—neither we nor our wives nor our sons nor our daughters;

May my teaching soak in like the rain, and my utterance drench like the dew, Like a downpour upon the grass, like a shower upon the crops.

If you will give these instructions to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound teaching you have followed.

holding fast to the true message as taught so that he will be able both to exhort with sound doctrine and to refute opponents.
