Hear, O children, a father’s instruction, be attentive, that you may gain understanding!

Therefore, we must attend all the more to what we have heard, so that we may not be carried away.

The rich grow poor and go hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and reject not your mother’s teaching;

The Words of the Wise: Incline your ear, and hear my words, and let your mind attend to my teaching;

My son, to my wisdom be attentive, to understanding incline your ear,

Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may eventually become wise.

Say to Wisdom, “You are my sister!” Call Understanding, “Friend!”

That people may know wisdom and discipline, may understand intelligent sayings;

We have obeyed Jonadab, Rechab’s son, our father, in everything that he commanded us: not drinking wine as long as we live—neither we nor our wives nor our sons nor our daughters;

“Assemble and listen, sons of Jacob, listen to Israel, your father.

A wise son loves correction, but the scoffer heeds no rebuke.
