David was king over all Israel; he dispensed justice and right to all his people.

For I rescued the poor who cried out for help, the orphans, and the unassisted;

“Defend the lowly and fatherless; render justice to the afflicted and needy.

Wrongdoing is an abomination to kings, for by justice the throne endures.

A king seated on the throne of judgment dispels all evil with his glance.

The just care for the cause of the poor; the wicked do not understand such care.

learn to do good. Make justice your aim: redress the wronged, hear the orphan’s plea, defend the widow.

Your princes are rebels and comrades of thieves; Each one of them loves a bribe and looks for gifts. The fatherless they do not defend, the widow’s plea does not reach them.

But he shall judge the poor with justice, and decide fairly for the land’s afflicted. He shall strike the ruthless with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked.

house of David! Thus says the Lord: Each morning dispense justice, rescue the oppressed from the hand of the oppressor, Or my fury will break out like fire and burn with no one to quench it because of your evil deeds.

Thus says the Lord: Do what is right and just. Rescue the victims from the hand of their oppressors. Do not wrong or oppress the resident alien, the orphan, or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place.

See, days are coming—oracle of the Lord— when I will raise up a righteous branch for David; As king he shall reign and govern wisely, he shall do what is just and right in the land.

Stop judging by appearances, but judge justly.”

I charged your judges at that time, “Listen to complaints among your relatives, and administer true justice to both parties even if one of them is a resident alien.

You loved justice and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, anointed you with the oil of gladness above your companions”;

Then I saw the heavens opened, and there was a white horse; its rider was [called] “Faithful and True.” He judges and wages war in righteousness.

Jonathan then spoke well of David to his father Saul, telling him: “The king should not harm his servant David. He has not harmed you, but has helped you very much by his deeds.

But Jonathan argued with his father Saul: “Why should he die? What has he done?”
