Do not be like a horse or mule, without understanding; with bit and bridle their temper is curbed, else they will not come to you.

On the lips of the intelligent is found wisdom, but a rod for the back of one without sense.

A single reprimand does more for a discerning person than a hundred lashes for a fool.

Beat a scoffer and the naive learn a lesson; rebuke the intelligent and they gain knowledge.

Rods are prepared for scoffers, and blows for the backs of fools.

Though you pound fools with a pestle, their folly never leaves them.

Which do you prefer? Shall I come to you with a rod, or with love and a gentle spirit?

and we are ready to punish every disobedience, once your obedience is complete.

I warned those who sinned earlier and all the others, and I warn them now while absent, as I did when present on my second visit, that if I come again I will not be lenient,
