Moses said, “This is what the Lord has commanded. Keep a full omer of it for your future generations, so that they may see the food I gave you to eat in the wilderness when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.”

As the Lord had commanded Moses, Aaron placed it in front of the covenant to keep it.

Hear, O heavens, and listen, O earth, for the Lord speaks: Sons have I raised and reared, but they have rebelled against me!

Since the days of Gibeah you have sinned, Israel. There they took their stand; will war not reach them in Gibeah? Against a perverse people

But Moses and Aaron fell prostrate before the whole assembled community of the Israelites;

Stand apart from this community, that I may consume them at once.

Then Moses said to Aaron, “Take your censer, put fire from the altar in it, lay incense on it, and bring it quickly to the community to make atonement for them; for wrath has come forth from the Lord and the plague has begun.”

So taking the bronze censers which had been presented by those who were burned, Eleazar the priest had them hammered into a covering for the altar,

So Moses took the staff from its place before the Lord, as he was ordered.

Do not let the group of Kohathite clans perish from among the Levites.

Do not grumble as some of them did, and suffered death by the destroyer.

Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the disobedient.

You have been rebels against the Lord from the day I first knew you.

Remember and do not forget how you angered the Lord, your God, in the wilderness. From the day you left the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious toward the Lord.

in which were the gold altar of incense and the ark of the covenant entirely covered with gold. In it were the gold jar containing the manna, the staff of Aaron that had sprouted, and the tablets of the covenant.

Now the sons of Eli were wicked; they had respect neither for the Lord
