Matthew 23:4

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You pay tithes of mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier things of the law: judgment and mercy and fidelity. [But] these you should have done, without neglecting the others.

Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you, but do not follow their example. For they preach but they do not practice.

And he said, “Woe also to you scholars of the law! You impose on people burdens hard to carry, but you yourselves do not lift one finger to touch them.

Why, then, are you now putting God to the test by placing on the shoulders of the disciples a yoke that neither our ancestors nor we have been able to bear?

‘It is the decision of the holy Spirit and of us not to place on you any burden beyond these necessities,

Not even those having themselves circumcised observe the law themselves; they only want you to be circumcised so that they may boast of your flesh.

For the love of God is this, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome,

But I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, who do not uphold this teaching and know nothing of the so-called deep secrets of Satan: on you I will place no further burden,
