He went and dwelt in a town called Nazareth, so that what had been spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled, “He shall be called a Nazorean.”

And when he entered Jerusalem the whole city was shaken and asked, “Who is this?”

But if we say, ‘Of human origin,’ we fear the crowd, for they all regard John as a prophet.”

And although they were attempting to arrest him, they feared the crowds, for they regarded him as a prophet.

Others were saying, “He is Elijah”; still others, “He is a prophet like any of the prophets.”

Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, exclaiming, “A great prophet has arisen in our midst,” and “God has visited his people.”

When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, that she is a sinner.”

So they asked him, “What are you then? Are you Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” He answered, “No.”

They asked him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah or Elijah or the Prophet?”

The woman said to him, “Sir, I can see that you are a prophet.

When the people saw the sign he had done, they said, “This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world.”

Some in the crowd who heard these words said, “This is truly the Prophet.”

So they said to the blind man again, “What do you have to say about him, since he opened your eyes?” He said, “He is a prophet.”

It was this Moses who said to the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you, from among your own kinsfolk, a prophet like me.’
