They refused to obey and no longer remembered the wonders you had worked for them. They were obdurate and appointed a leader in order to return to their slavery in Egypt. But you are a forgiving God, gracious and merciful, slow to anger and rich in mercy; you did not forsake them.

The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in mercy.

But God being compassionate forgave their sin; he did not utterly destroy them. Time and again he turned back his anger, unwilling to unleash all his rage.

But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in mercy and truth.

Lord, you are good and forgiving, most merciful to all who call on you.

How could I give you up, Ephraim, or deliver you up, Israel? How could I treat you as Admah, or make you like Zeboiim? My heart is overwhelmed, my pity is stirred.

When that servant had left, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a much smaller amount. He seized him and started to choke him, demanding, ‘Pay back what you owe.’

His master summoned him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you your entire debt because you begged me to.

Since they were unable to repay the debt, he forgave it for both. Which of them will love him more?”

Simon said in reply, “The one, I suppose, whose larger debt was forgiven.” He said to him, “You have judged rightly.”

And they cast out the foreign gods from their midst and served the Lord, so that he grieved over the misery of Israel.
