I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. All the families of the earth will find blessing in you.

This is the story of the heavens and the earth at their creation. When the Lord God made the earth and the heavens—

and in your descendants all the nations of the earth will find blessing, because you obeyed my command.”

This is the record of the descendants of Adam. When God created human beings, he made them in the likeness of God;

The Lord swore an oath to David in truth, he will never turn back from it: “Your own offspring I will set upon your throne.

For I said, “My mercy is established forever; my faithfulness will stand as long as the heavens.

By my holiness I swore once for all: I will never be false to David.

But a shoot shall sprout from the stump of Jesse, and from his roots a bud shall blossom.

Seized and condemned, he was taken away. Who would have thought any more of his destiny? For he was cut off from the land of the living, struck for the sins of his people.

See, days are coming—oracle of the Lord— when I will raise up a righteous branch for David; As king he shall reign and govern wisely, he shall do what is just and right in the land.

then I will also reject the descendants of Jacob and of David my servant, no longer selecting from his descendants rulers for the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Yes, I will restore their fortunes and show them mercy.

On that day I will raise up the fallen hut of David; I will wall up its breaches, raise up its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old,

On that day the Lord will shield the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the weakest among them will be like David on that day; and the house of David will be like God, like the angel of the Lord before them.

Now this is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found with child through the holy Spirit.

Abraham became the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers.

And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out, “Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is tormented by a demon.”

After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the heavens were opened [for him], and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove [and] coming upon him.

And as Jesus passed on from there, two blind men followed [him], crying out, “Son of David, have pity on us!”

and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

Does not scripture say that the Messiah will be of David’s family and come from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?”

But since he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants upon his throne,

the gospel about his Son, descended from David according to the flesh,

It was not through the law that the promise was made to Abraham and his descendants that he would inherit the world, but through the righteousness that comes from faith.

theirs the patriarchs, and from them, according to the flesh, is the Messiah. God who is over all be blessed forever. Amen. God’s Free Choice.

Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his descendant. It does not say, “And to descendants,” as referring to many, but as referring to one, “And to your descendant,” who is Christ.

For there is one God. There is also one mediator between God and the human race, Christ Jesus, himself human,

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David: such is my gospel,

“I, Jesus, sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the root and offspring of David, the bright morning star.”
