When Jesus heard this he said to him, “There is still one thing left for you: sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have a treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

Then, within the hearing of all the people, he said to [his] disciples,

Then he said to all, “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

and carrying the cross himself he went out to what is called the Place of the Skull, in Hebrew, Golgotha.

They strengthened the spirits of the disciples and exhorted them to persevere in the faith, saying, “It is necessary for us to undergo many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.”

We know that our old self was crucified with him, so that our sinful body might be done away with, that we might no longer be in slavery to sin.

and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. Destiny of Glory.

Every day I face death; I swear it by the pride in you [brothers] that I have in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Therefore, if food causes my brother to sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I may not cause my brother to sin.

Although I am free in regard to all, I have made myself a slave to all so as to win over as many as possible.

yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me; insofar as I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God who has loved me and given himself up for me.

Now those who belong to Christ [Jesus] have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires.

But may I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

to know him and the power of his resurrection and [the] sharing of his sufferings by being conformed to his death,

[But] whatever gains I had, these I have come to consider a loss because of Christ.

Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ on behalf of his body, which is the church,

Put to death, then, the parts of you that are earthly: immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and the greed that is idolatry.

We hear that some are conducting themselves among you in a disorderly way, by not keeping busy but minding the business of others.

and training us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live temperately, justly, and devoutly in this age,

Let us then go to him outside the camp, bearing the reproach that he bore.

Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same attitude (for whoever suffers in the flesh has broken with sin),

But rejoice to the extent that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice exultantly.

since I know that I will soon have to put it aside, as indeed our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me.

The way we came to know love was that he laid down his life for us; so we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.

Do not be afraid of anything that you are going to suffer. Indeed, the devil will throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will face an ordeal for ten days. Remain faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
