Mark 8:11

The Pharisees came forward and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him.

Let us not test Christ as some of them did, and suffered death by serpents.

Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to him, “Teacher, we wish to see a sign from you.”

But we call the arrogant blessed; for evildoers not only prosper but even test God and escape.”

You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test, as you did at Massah.

Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will not believe.”

Others, to test him, asked him for a sign from heaven.

The place was named Massah and Meribah, because the Israelites quarreled there and tested the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord in our midst or not?” Battle with Amalek.

Then Peter said to her, “Why did you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen, the footsteps of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”

Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him?

So they said to him, “What sign can you do, that we may see and believe in you? What can you do?

There was a scholar of the law who stood up to test him and said, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

Knowing their hypocrisy he said to them, “Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius to look at.”

Some scribes who were Pharisees saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors and said to his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

On that day Sadducees approached him, saying that there is no resurrection. They put this question to him,

Knowing their malice, Jesus said, “Why are you testing me, you hypocrites?

Then the Pharisees went off and plotted how they might entrap him in speech.

When he had come into the temple area, the chief priests and the elders of the people approached him as he was teaching and said, “By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?”

Some Pharisees approached him, and tested him, saying, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause whatever?”

and so they quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses replied to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the Lord to a test?”

They said this to test him, so that they could have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger.

He asked them, “What are you arguing about with them?”
