When Elisha, the man of God, heard that the king of Israel had torn his garments, he sent word to the king: “Why have you torn your garments? Let him come to me and find out that there is a prophet in Israel.”

He said to them in reply, “An evil and unfaithful generation seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it except the sign of Jonah the prophet.

He testified with many other arguments, and was exhorting them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”

Or do you hold his priceless kindness, forbearance, and patience in low esteem, unaware that the kindness of God would lead you to repentance?

Yet his degenerate children have treated him basely, a twisted and crooked generation!

And we see that they could not enter for lack of faith.

Therefore, let us strive to enter into that rest, so that no one may fall after the same example of disobedience.

For in fact we have received the good news just as they did. But the word that they heard did not profit them, for they were not united in faith with those who listened.

Therefore, he is always able to save those who approach God through him, since he lives forever to make intercession for them.
