Whoever walks blamelessly is safe, but one whose ways are crooked falls into a pit.

My people come to you, gathering as a crowd and sitting in front of you to hear your words, but they will not act on them. Love songs are on their lips, but in their hearts they pursue dishonest gain.

I will not punish your daughters for their prostitution, nor your daughters-in-law for their adultery, Because the men themselves consort with prostitutes, and with temple women they offer sacrifice! Thus a people without understanding comes to ruin.

Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you, but do not follow their example. For they preach but they do not practice.

And then many will be led into sin; they will betray and hate one another.

That one is like a person building a house, who dug deeply and laid the foundation on rock; when the flood came, the river burst against that house but could not shake it because it had been well built.

When he had finished all his words to the people, he entered Capernaum.

He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and every one that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.

I know that after my departure savage wolves will come among you, and they will not spare the flock.

Many times, in synagogue after synagogue, I punished them in an attempt to force them to blaspheme; I was so enraged against them that I pursued them even to foreign cities.

For this reason, when I too could bear it no longer, I sent to learn about your faith, for fear that somehow the tempter had put you to the test and our toil might come to nothing.

For if they, having escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of [our] Lord and savior Jesus Christ, again become entangled and overcome by them, their last condition is worse than their first.

They went out from us, but they were not really of our number; if they had been, they would have remained with us. Their desertion shows that none of them was of our number.
