Then the king said to the man of God, “Entreat the Lord, your God, and intercede for me that my hand may be restored.” So the man of God entreated the Lord, and the king’s hand was restored as it was before.

Thus says the Lord God: Because the Philistines acted vengefully and exacted vengeance with intentional malice, destroying with undying hostility,

therefore thus says the Lord God: Truly, with burning jealousy I speak against the remaining nations and against Edom; they all took possession of my land for plunder with wholehearted joy and utter contempt.

But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you,

[Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.”] They divided his garments by casting lots.

“But to you who hear I say, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,

But rather, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend expecting nothing back; then your reward will be great and you will be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.

When there was an attempt by both the Gentiles and the Jews, together with their leaders, to attack and stone them,

Then he fell to his knees and cried out in a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them”; and when he said this, he fell asleep.

Bless those who persecute [you], bless and do not curse them.

and we toil, working with our own hands. When ridiculed, we bless; when persecuted, we endure;

From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. This need not be so, my brothers.

Do not return evil for evil, or insult for insult; but, on the contrary, a blessing, because to this you were called, that you might inherit a blessing.
