Pilate then summoned the chief priests, the rulers, and the people

Pilate said to them, “Why? What evil has he done?” They only shouted the louder, “Crucify him.”

The people stood by and watched; the rulers, meanwhile, sneered at him and said, “He saved others, let him save himself if he is the chosen one, the Messiah of God.”

how our chief priests and rulers both handed him over to a sentence of death and crucified him.

Nevertheless, many, even among the authorities, believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not acknowledge it openly in order not to be expelled from the synagogue.

Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” When he had said this, he again went out to the Jews and said to them, “I find no guilt in him.

Once more Pilate went out and said to them, “Look, I am bringing him out to you, so that you may know that I find no guilt in him.”

Now there was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

And look, he is speaking openly and they say nothing to him. Could the authorities have realized that he is the Messiah?

Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him?

The inhabitants of Jerusalem and their leaders failed to recognize him, and by condemning him they fulfilled the oracles of the prophets that are read sabbath after sabbath.

Now I know, brothers, that you acted out of ignorance, just as your leaders did;
