Let us search and examine our ways, and return to the Lord!

His son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you; I no longer deserve to be called your son.’

But the tax collector stood off at a distance and would not even raise his eyes to heaven but beat his breast and prayed, ‘O God, be merciful to me a sinner.’

If you forgive others their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you.

I thought: How I would like to make you my children! So I gave you a pleasant land, the most beautiful heritage among the nations! You would call me, “My Father,” I thought, and you would never turn away from me.

For the sake of your name, Lord, pardon my guilt, though it is great.

“This is how you are to pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,

and were being baptized by him in the Jordan River as they acknowledged their sins.

Is Ephraim not my favored son, the child in whom I delight? Even though I threaten him, I must still remember him! My heart stirs for him, I must show him compassion!—oracle of the Lord.

For you are our father. Were Abraham not to know us, nor Israel to acknowledge us, You, Lord, are our father, our redeemer you are named from of old.

Do not withhold discipline from youths; if you beat them with the rod, they will not die.

If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him. The Golden Rule.

His prayer and how his supplication was heard, all his sins and his treachery, the sites where he built high places and set up asherahs and carved images before he humbled himself, all this is recorded in the chronicles of his seers.

He said to them, “When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.

Who knows? God may again repent and turn from his blazing wrath, so that we will not perish.”

You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the sea, and the flood enveloped me; All your breakers and your billows passed over me.

Twelve months later, as he was walking on the roof of the royal palace in Babylon,

To put one’s mouth in the dust— there may yet be hope—

Coming to his senses he thought, ‘How many of my father’s hired workers have more than enough food to eat, but here am I, dying from hunger.

I no longer deserve to be called your son; treat me as you would treat one of your hired workers.”’
