With fierce hatred I hate them, enemies I count as my own.

But he answered, “No, I will not come. I am going instead to the land of my birth.”

“Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;

And another said, ‘I have just married a woman, and therefore I cannot come.’

Great crowds were traveling with him, and he turned and addressed them,

Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will preserve it for eternal life.

Yet I consider life of no importance to me, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to bear witness to the gospel of God’s grace.

As it is written: “I loved Jacob but hated Esau.”

If a man has two wives, one loved and the other unloved, and if both the loved and the unloved bear him sons, but the firstborn is the son of the unloved wife:

He said of his father and mother, “I have no regard for them”; His brothers he would not acknowledge, and his own children he did not recognize. For they kept your words, and your covenant they upheld.

More than that, I even consider everything as a loss because of the supreme good of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have accepted the loss of all things and I consider them so much rubbish, that I may gain Christ

They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; love for life did not deter them from death.
