Humble people you save, though on the haughty your eyes look down.

For when they are brought low, you will say, “It is pride!” But downcast eyes he saves.

The Lord is on high, but cares for the lowly and knows the proud from afar.

Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

Then he said to the host who invited him, “When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in case they may invite you back and you have repayment.

I tell you, the latter went home justified, not the former; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” Saying on Children and the Kingdom.

The brother in lowly circumstances should take pride in his high standing,

Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you.

But he bestows a greater grace; therefore, it says: “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

Likewise, you younger members, be subject to the presbyters. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for: “God opposes the proud but bestows favor on the humble.”

So humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.

Samuel then said: “Though little in your own eyes, are you not chief of the tribes of Israel? The Lord anointed you king of Israel
